Blue Giant Supplies Dock Equipment to World Famous Dubai Facilities
Brampton, ON, Canada (October 2009) – Blue Giant Equipment Corporation announced three projects in Dubai include Blue Giant products, the Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai Mall, and the Burj Tower.
Blue Giant’s position as a world leader in the manufacture and distribution of loading dock equipment is reflected in the company motto: “World Class, World Wide”. Our global reputation was enhanced in 2007 and 2008, when our dock levelers were installed in the loading bays of the world’s largest shopping mall, the tallest commercial building, and a massive international airport that will handle 120 million passengers and 12 million tons of cargo annually once completed.
All three properties are located in Dubai, and operate on such a large scale that only the strongest loading dock equipment could meet their cargo handling requirements. Blue Giant was up for the challenge.
DUBAI MALL PROJECT
The Dubai Mall, with over 1,200 stores and a host of world-class attractions, has been described as revolutionizing the retail experience. In addition to shopping, visitors can go ice skating, enjoy an outdoor brunch before seeing a movie, and visit a 21st century gold souk or giant aquarium. The volume of cargo arriving at this busy facility on a daily basis mandated the installation of high performance loading dock equipment.
In August 2007 Blue Giant supplied seventy-six 6’, 25,000lb / 11,363kg capacity C-series hydraulic dock levelers to the mall. The C-series leveler combines simplicity of operation with powerful performance. Full-length box beams maintain structural integrity under the most demanding conditions, and the unit’s 4” (102mm) maintained tilt allows the entire deck to float with the vehicle load bed, eliminating deck fatigue, reducing maintenance costs and prolonging the life of the leveler.
Affordable yet efficient, these units provide invaluable support to the Dubai Mall’s warehouse operations.
BURJ KHALIFA TOWER PROJECT
This striking tower, at 828 meters (2,717 feet) tall, is now the world’s tallest man-made structure, surpassing the CN Tower in Toronto and the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan. It has become the centerpiece of Downtown Burj Dubai, a US$20-billion urban development that will include residential apartments, office space, hospitality projects and shopping outlets.
In March 2008, Blue Giant provided eight 6’x8’, 5,000lb / 2,267kg capacity hydraulic scissor lifts to the Burj Khalifa’s high-volume cargo facilities. Our dock lifts quickly and easily turn a ground level area into a functioning loading dock. Their heights can be adjusted between 0” and 59” inches, making them accessible to both forklift traffic and truck beds. Because the tower consists of hotel facilities, businesses, and residential units, management needed a versatile scissor lift capable of handling varying cargo volumes and vehicle types. The Blue Giant dock lifts fitted the bill perfectly.
AL MAKTOUM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (JXB) PROJECT
Al Maktoum International Airport (JXB), when completed, will be as large as London’s Heathrow and Chicago’s O’Hare airports combined. This massive complex will handle more than 120 million passengers annually and include 16 cargo terminals with a 12 million ton capacity. The facility will eventually house hotels, restaurants and residential apartments and be the world's largest exhibition venue with 19 exhibit halls and parking space for 20,000 cars.
During the summer of 2008, Blue Giant dealer Dosteen General Trading LLC sold one hundred and eighty 7’x10’, 30,000lb / 13,636kg capacity Mantis hydraulic dock levelers to the airport site. The Mantis is an efficient and durable system, with dual cylinders for fully hydraulic operation of the deck and lip. High tensile steel channels welded under the deck prevent ‘dishing’ and other structural issues that can arise from the type of constant and heavy usage experienced at a mega-sized airport.
