Blue Giant StrongArm™ SVR303 a Winner in Plant Engineering Product of the Year Competition

Brampton, ON, Canada (April 2010). The advanced restraint technology behind Blue Giant’s StrongArm™ SVR303 is not only patented; it’s also award-winning.

Each year Plant Engineering magazine celebrates new product design and innovation in the manufacturing industry with its Product of the Year competition. In 2009, thanks to the many votes cast by industry professionals, the StrongArm™ SVR303 won the Bronze Award in the Material Handling category.

ANSI MH30.3 tested and approved, the StrongArm™ SVR303 is a low-profile, non-impact design with a rotating arm that seeks a truck’s rear impact guard via a patented, switchless technology. Once engaged, it uses 35,000 lbs of restraining force to secure the truck to the dock. Dual-acting hydraulic cylinders prevent lock-up and release problems. The intelligent positioning system constantly communicates the location of the restraint arm via a network that enables the integrated lights communication system to accurately display safety conditions at the loading dock.

The control station is as innovative in its design and technology as the restraint itself. The Blue Genius™ Gold Series II Touch Control Panel is microprocessor-based, with onboard diagnostics and a keypad with unique touch sensors that incorporate accurate proximity sensing of the operator’s finger. The special network communication system allows multiple units of dock equipment to be operated in their proper sequence from one central location. Additional features include an LCD menu screen that displays simple, accurate instructions for both operation and troubleshooting, and a STOP button that enables complete motion freeze of the restraint and its interlocked components.

The lights communication system helps the dock staff and truck drivers coordinate their activities safely and efficiently. Password protection and other supervisory controls can be applied to the restraint functions, making loading dock operations that much safer. ”

On March 29, Gregory Ion and Jeff Miller, Blue Giant’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, accepted the award on behalf of Blue Giant at Plant Engineering’s annual Product of the Year dinner in Chicago, which is part of the 2010 Manufacturing / Automation Summit.

Blue Giant joined the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in February of 2010, and one of its first contributions toward environmentally friendly product design is an air-powered version of the StrongArm™ SVR303, tentatively called the StrongArm™ SVR303A. This new, ‘green’ alternative to the hydraulic vehicle restraint was introduced at the International Door Association expo in Las Vegas on April 23-24, 2010, and will be available for purchase this fall.
